March Webinar – Veiled But Not Voiceless: Life in a Nunnery Through a Bioarchaeological Perspective

Dear Bone Lovers,

We are thrilled to invite you to our upcoming webinar: “Veiled But Not Voiceless: Life in a Nunnery Through a Bioarchaeological Perspective” with Nataša Šarkić.

For centuries, convents were among the only spaces where women could live independently, receive an education, manage finances, and govern themselves — in a world that denied them those rights.

Long before the word “feminism ” existed, female monastic communities created women-run spaces of autonomy, leadership, and intellectual life. By studying the skeletal remains of nuns, we explore not just their health and daily lives, but the deeper connection between monasticism and the roots of feminist history. Sometimes, the walls of a convent weren’t just religious boundaries – they were foundations of women’s power.
