FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
- Are the courses suitable for all levels?
Yes! The courses are structured to accommodate learners of all experience levels. You don’t need any specific background—just curiosity and motivation. The materials can be tailored to your level of familiarity with the subject.
- How do I know which course is right for me?
If you are new to bioarchaeology or unsure of your level, we recommend starting with our free Basic Course in Bioarchaeology, offered twice a year (February and September). It provides a solid foundation and helps you understand the key concepts.
From there, your choice depends on your background and interests. "Mortuary Archaeology” is an accessible introduction to burial contexts, ideal for beginners. If you come from a scientific field such as biology, “Archaeological Survey and Field Methods” offers practical field techniques that complement your knowledge. For those with experience in archaeology or anthropology, these courses are also a great starting point before moving on to specialized topics like "Dental Anthropology", "Advanced course in Bioarchaeology", and so forth. From there, you can progress to Paleopathology, our most advanced course focusing on pathologies and trauma in ancient populations.
- How many courses can I take?
There is no limit to the number of courses you can take. However, please note that you will have 45 days to watch the video lessons and complete the practical assignments.
- How many sessions are offered each year?
We offer two course sessions per year—one in March and one in October.
- How does each session work?
Each session allows you 45 days to complete your selected course.
All lessons are pre-recorded, so you can watch them at your own pace within that timeframe. You’ll also gain access to a wide range of scientific literature, digital resources, and weekly free consultations to support your learning.
Throughout the course, you’ll complete exercises based on lab recordings to help apply your theoretical knowledge. Don’t worry—we’re here to support you, and you can always reach out during our consultations if you need guidance.
- Can I get a discount?
Yes! Even if you’re not a returning participant, you can receive a 20% discount by enrolling in at least two courses at the same time.
Details about discounts for returning participants are in the next question.
- Who is considered a “Returning Participant”?
Returning participants are people who have previously attended any of our online courses (Free Basic Course in Bioarchaeology included) or field schools. They receive a 20% lifetime discount on all future courses—automatically applied when enrolling using the same email address used for previous registrations.
- Will I receive a certificate?
Yes! Upon successfully completing both the course and the practical work, you’ll receive a digital certificate of attendance.
You can also request a printed certificate, but you will need to cover the shipping costs.
- How do I enroll in a course?
Create an account on our website. If this is not your first time purchasing a course, make sure to sign in using the same email you used previously so the system can recognize you.
Then, simply choose your course(s), add them to your cart, and proceed to checkout. Once payment is complete, you’ll be automatically enrolled.
- I have a discount, but it doesn’t appear during checkout. What should I do?
If you’re eligible for a discount, the system will recognize it only if you create an account before checking out.
Be sure to use the same email address you previously used for other courses. The discount won’t apply without an account, and it must be linked to the correct email address.
That same email will also be used to send you all course-related information and your certificate.
- What if I want to use a different email because I no longer have access to the old one?
Yes, you can change your email address. However, you must first notify our staff at aitabioarch@gmail.com so we can update your details in the system.
After that, create a new account using your new email address before proceeding to payment. This ensures your discount is correctly applied and that you receive all course communications and your certificate.
- I can’t find the courses in Spanish. How can I access them?
To view the Spanish-language courses, simply change the site language by clicking the flag icon at the top of the page. This will display all courses available in Spanish.
- Will I have access to the lessons after the session ends?
No. Access to course materials is limited to the 45-day session period. After that, the videos and resources will no longer be available.
